Mariapoli 2026
The annual Mariapoli of the Focolare Movement was held this year in Karm Saddeh from July 9 to 12, with 182 participants.
Under the theme “Peace in the Heart of the Storm,” the gathering focused on cultivating inner peace in times of war and suffering, sharing that peace in relationships with others, and discovering joy as the fruit of peace.
On Friday, the first day, participants reflected on the question: “How many storms do we live through?” In the serene natural surroundings of Mar Semaan Monastery – Ayto, they explored how to find peace amid pain and hardship, seeing difficulties as opportunities to encounter Jesus and experience His love. The day featured moving testimonies, including that of George Jabbour, who, despite his suffering, was able to say: “I am the happiest person.”
In the afternoon, a dialogue with Bishop Essayan highlighted the role of Christians in building peace in Lebanon, encouraging Focolare members to root themselves in their spiritual identity and work actively for peace. The New Humanity Movement also presented its initiatives in peacebuilding and in bridging gaps with associations, displaced persons, and those in need. The day concluded with an evening of prayer and hymns.
On Saturday, the program centered on relationships, encounters, and reciprocity. Bishop Joseph Naffah spoke about Jesus’ encounters in the Gospel, particularly His meeting with the disciples of Emmaus, emphasizing the importance of “the other” and of walking together in the company of Jesus.
Jean and Hayat Fallah shared their experience of living in trust in God, loving their neighbor, and drawing strength from mutual love, supported by the Focolare Movement. The day concluded with testimonies on collective decision-making within the Movement and its support for displaced persons at the Saint Anne Center in Rabweh.
The afternoon was devoted to reflecting on the beauty of creation and the importance of caring for the environment, followed by a walk in nature. The youth closed the day with an artistic Mariapolital, after which the atmosphere turned festive with dancing and dabke to the melodies of Fairuz.
The Mariapoli concluded on Sunday in an atmosphere of joy, with a testimony from Laure Brunnec about her vocation and following Jesus, and a message from Chiara Lubich on joy as a gift from God. Participants departed with renewed hearts, carrying the spirit of peace and joy to serve Lebanon.
